Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitative Care

Neuro-Optometric rehabilitative care assesses the effects on the visual pathways and processing after a neurological event. This can include conditions such as concussions, traumatic brain injuries, strokes, tumors, palsies, nystagmus and more. Visual symptoms can manifest as headaches, double vision, issues focusing and tracking, inattention to peripheral vision, dizziness, sensitivities to light and screens and more.

After a neurological event, it is recommended to have a medical eye examination to check for changes to ocular health, measure any changes to your baseline prescription and screen for binocular vision dyfunctions. Once this is established, we will do a further assessment of the functionality of the binocular system to evaluate its strength, endurance, and flexibility at distance and near, assess peripheral awareness and the vestibular-ocular reflex. This assessment will help us determine the type and duration of rehabilitative therapy you may need. As a therapy program progresses, there will be progress evaluations throughout to adjust each program to the individual patient and a final assessment.
